One of the most fascinating part of Cyprus is the south-eastern coast. Here, you can admire the natural beauty area of Cape Greco that has been declared National Forest Park. Swimming in the caves of Cape Greco and watching the spectacular sunsets reflected on its sea, is what can make a trip to Cyprus unforgettable.

It was July when I arrived in Cyprus and the heat was stifling. The sea seemed the only remedy, so Cape Greco has been the first mandatory destination for starting to visit the island. Snorkelling in its heavenly waters I admired octopuses, Leon fish, turtles and schools of goldfish.

The peninsula of Cape Greco, which conserves unique fauna and flora, is recognized as one of the most ancient settlements on the island. Foxes, hares, hedgehogs, over 80 species of birds, lizards and many varieties of butterflies inhabit the area.

Among other things, Cape Greco is an important migration site for many different species of birds. BirdLife International, a global partnership of non-governmental organizations aiming at preserving birds and their territories, has declared the zone an Important Bird Area (IBA).

The zone is a promontory that covers an area of 385 hectares, extending east of Agia Napa and south-east of Protaras. Take a walk along one of the paths in the National Forest Park and enjoy the peace and tranquillity that this area has to offer.

If you want to admire the beautiful coastline, the Sea Caves Trail is what you have to try. It starts from Agia Napa, ending at Cavo, through a 3.6 km long path. During the trial, caves, bridges, rocks and sand follows each other with crystal-clear waters always in the background. I did this path in a sunny day of October when my family came to visit me. The weather was perfect, and the trail wasn’t so crowded. We really loved the caves and once arrived in the Natural Park of Cape Greco we treated ourselves to a refreshing swim in one of the cavities carved out by the sea.

If you want to be enchanted by the amazing landscapes of Cape Greco this trail is what will make you experience the beauty of this area.
