I have always been attracted by border areas. I see the border as a space characterised by creativity and richness, because it is a place where differences meet and they find themselves having to look for their own way to merge, to intersect, to overlap or to collide with each other, creating something new from chunks of ancient, known and familiar things.

Cyprus is – geographically speaking – a border area, being between Europe and Asia, and it carries the border inside itself not only because its capital city is divided by a wall, but also because it is a place of overlaps, of cultural mazes, of discrepancies and incoherence. This is the very reason why I am fascinated by it.

I like this city. I like Nicosia because it is something that I had never seen and, like every new place does, it makes me feel vulnerable and curious. At the same time, however, it reminds me of some places I have already explored. I like it because of that too.

I feel I am outside of my comfort zone, but not too far from its borders. I still don’t know very well how to get around, and I can’t wait to figure that out.
